I really like taking pictures. What can I say? I am a picture taking fool. It wasn't until just recently that I decided to take my "hobby" and try to make something out of it.
When I was a kid, the thought of capturing a moment, documenting a piece in time that would otherwise be forgotten, was absolutely inticing. I would take pictures of everything.
As I became a teenager, I found the expressionism in taking a picture. Photography as an art form. That was enough to devour my curiosity completely. I was hooked. I loved going to museum's and seeing the professionals' pieces. Noticing the way they made me feel and the conversations they would provoke. I loved it.
Now, I’m realizing how liberating it is to take an idea and make it real. Having willing participants who would have me shape them, like a painter manipulates his brush, and create something original.
I kick myself that I didn't pursue this earlier. Even though I took pictures with my little point and click camera, photography was not a main focus in my life. Then life went on. They say starting a family takes a lot of time and boy were they right. But now that my kids are a little bit older I can see who I am as a photographer and dedicate myself to the art. Better late than never, they say. The elusive "them". But that's another blog.
About my pictures :
They are what caught my eye. It’s like a little voice in my head that says "take it. Take the picture." Some good, some bad (hopefully not too many). Some have been planned (i.e. brownskin shoots, Sharif jewelers shoot) but most I walked around somewhere and captured those shots that catch my eye.
